Week 9 Two Quizzes

Quizlet is a great tool for students to learn on their own, and to have fun collaboratively in the classroom.

You start off by creating a study set of online flashcards. They are very easy to create - after you have entered your term, it will search for the definitions of that term. So, often you only need to select by clicking on the one you want - no typing long definitions!

Teaching a foreign language? Quizlet will automatically select the translation for a word you want. If you don't like the suggestion, you can delete it or edit it.

Quizlet will then automatically convert it to speech when needed in such exercises as "Spell". It will automatically create the other learning activities, unlike Kahoots and other quiz formats where you have to create your own distractors.

There are thousands of study sets already created (Quizlet.com) that you can use, which saves a huge amount of time. However, you still need to check them, as many of the study sets are created by students and are not always accurate. Some maths study sets will step students through solutions.

Match is a game where students match a term and defintion by dragging one to the other. When they match, they disappear. There is a timer which shows how long iot takes. This can be a fun competitive class activity, or you can challenge students to beat their initial times.

Live is a collaborative multiple choice activity in which the students in a group all get different answers - only one member will have the correct answer. It has a leader table and works in the form of a snakes and ladder game - if anyone in the group selects the wrong answer, the mark reverts to 0! No extra points for guessing quickly.

This is one of the few digital tools I actually pay for, as I feel the premium mode is well worth it.

Here is a matching exercise on formal and informal words: Quizlet matching activity You can see the associated set of flashcards and other activities here: Formal vs Informal words. This is available indefinitely.
